Thailand Toolkit builds free, straightforward tools and guides for people who live, work, travel, retire, invest, study, or do business in Thailand — the kind of practical calculations you’d otherwise piece together from forum threads and outdated blog posts.
Who’s behind it
My name is Richmond. I’m Canadian, and I’ve lived in Thailand for the past twenty years.
I built this site out of ordinary need. Nearly every tool here started as something I had to work out for myself — opening a bank account, sorting a visa extension, figuring out what I actually owed in tax, moving money in and out of the country, importing goods, understanding what a landed cost really came to. Twenty years in, I still do most of these things regularly, and the answers still aren’t easy to find in one place.
I’m not a tax adviser, a lawyer, or an immigration agent. What I have is two decades of working through Thai paperwork from the inside, and a habit of checking a figure against the official source rather than against what someone posted on a forum in 2019.
The money and banking guides in particular come from current experience rather than memory. I hold Thai bank accounts and move money across borders most weeks. The fees, the delays, and the small administrative traps described in those guides are ones I’ve run into myself.
How the tools work
Every tool shows its math. Each one has a “how this is calculated” section written in plain language, an “assumptions & sources” note with the date it was last checked, and links to the relevant official source where one exists. If a figure is uncertain or likely to change, that’s stated rather than presented as fact.
When something turns out to be wrong, it gets fixed and the check date gets updated. That happens more often than you’d think — a recent audit of the English proficiency converter turned up score boundaries that were off by up to twenty points in three separate bands. It’s now corrected against the official framework. Tools that quietly go stale are the reason this site exists, so the maintenance matters as much as the building.
What this site isn’t
Not a law firm, accountancy, or immigration consultancy. Nothing here is professional tax, legal, or immigration advice — the tools are estimates for planning purposes, and real decisions should be checked against official sources or a licensed professional.
The point of a tool here is to help you understand the shape of a decision before you pay someone to confirm it.
How this site is funded
Thailand Toolkit’s tools and guides are free to use, and we intend to keep them that way. The site is funded by clearly-marked affiliate links — currently with Wise — and may in future carry advertising, always visually distinct from our content. Two commitments hold regardless of how we’re funded: our numbers come from official and verifiable sources, checked and dated, never from what pays best; and no placement, ranking, or recommendation on this site is ever sold.
