These figures come from MEA’s published residential tariff (the revised rates in force from the September 2026 bill) and the Ft the Energy Regulatory Commission set for September – December 2026 bills — not a rough estimate. PEA (outside Bangkok) uses the same residential schedule. The Ft is reset every four months, so check your actual bill for an exact figure.

How this is calculated
- Usage of 150 units or less is billed on Type 1.1, split across 5 tiers; anything above that is billed on Type 1.2, split across 3 tiers. Each tier is billed at its own rate per unit (shown in the breakdown).
- The Ft fuel adjustment charge (0.1623 THB/unit, set for September – December 2026 bills) is added for every unit.
- A fixed monthly service charge is added: 8.19 THB on Type 1.1, 24.62 THB on Type 1.2.
- 7% VAT is applied to the subtotal.

Frequently asked questions
What's the Ft charge?
A fuel adjustment charge added to every unit of electricity, set by the Energy Regulatory Commission every four months as fuel costs change. The figure used here, 0.1623 THB per unit, is the one the Commission set for September – December 2026 bills. If you are reading this after that period, the Ft may have changed.
Which tariff does this use — Type 1.1 or 1.2?
Both. MEA bills households using 150 units a month or less on Type 1.1 and everyone else on Type 1.2, so the calculator picks the schedule from the usage you enter. In practice your type is assigned from your meter and recent usage history rather than a single month, so one unusually high or low month may be billed on the other schedule.
Does this work for businesses, or outside Bangkok?
Outside Bangkok, yes — PEA publishes the same residential schedule as MEA (it labels the two types 1.1.1 and 1.1.2). Businesses, no — small-business and commercial tariffs are structured differently and aren't modeled here.
Why do the rates step up at 200 and 400 units?
Thailand's residential electricity tariff is progressive, similar to income tax — only the units above each threshold are billed at the higher rate. Since the September 2026 bill, the energy charge on a household's first 200 units has been capped at 3.00 THB per unit.
