Family Budget Calculator
Estimate a monthly family budget in Thailand, scaled for extra adults and children.
Modeling assumption, not a sourced figure
The city/lifestyle baselines this starts from were checked against multiple current 2026 cost-of-living sources. The per-adult and per-child scaling on top of that isn’t — it’s our own modeling assumption, not a figure pulled from a survey. Real household costs depend heavily on a child’s age and school choice in ways a flat percentage can’t capture, so treat this as a reasonable starting point to adjust rather than a benchmark.

- Start from the single-adult city/lifestyle baseline.

- Food and leisure scale up by 70% of the baseline for each adult beyond the first.
- Each child adds ฿8,000/month, and health insurance scales per adult.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't housing and utilities scale with family size?
They're treated as shared costs — a family doesn't need a bigger apartment for every additional person the way food and leisure spending grows, though a much larger family may need to move to a bigger unit than the baseline assumes.
What does the children's cost line cover?
A rough combined estimate (currently ฿8,000/month) for a child's food share, incidentals, and school-related costs. It doesn't distinguish between a toddler and a teenager in international school, which can differ by an order of magnitude.
How is this different from the Cost of Living Estimator?
The Thailand Cost of Living Estimator is calibrated for a single adult with fully editable line items. This tool starts from the same city/lifestyle baselines but automatically scales them for your household size.
